Tax-Free Week ‘Particularly Critical’ for Maryland This Year

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Maryland’s tax-free week has taken on more importance, a state official said Tuesday.
“This year, it’s particularly critical that people take advantage of this,” Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot said in a telephone interview.
Shoppers will see savings during Shop Maryland Tax-Free Week Aug. 9-15 because the 6% state sales tax will be waived on specific purchases, he said. Franchot also urged people to shop at local small businesses that have suffered because of the pandemic.
