[Windsor Mill, MD] – The Maryland Retailers Association held its annual Maryland Food Industry Hall of Fame event at Martin’s West yesterday morning honoring those who have made a significant contribution to the food industry in Maryland.  President Cailey Locklair Tolle welcomed an audience of 200 individuals from the industry, while Chairman Walt Clocker of Angel’s Food Market and Jeff Metzger of Food World Magazine honored Hall of Fame inductees, Store Manager of the Year and presented the Best-Met, Pet Manos Retail Executive of the Year Award.

The list of award recipients includes:

  • Benjy Green of B. Green & Co., Inc. (Hall of Fame inductee)
  • Rob Harman of Giant Food, LLC (Hall of Fame inductee)
  • Jack Landsman of Utz Quality Foods (Hall of Fame inductee)
  • John W. Schock of Financial Management Solutions (Hall of Fame inductee)
  • Jeffrie Zellmer of the Maryland Retailers Association (Hall of Fame inductee)
  • Joe Smith of Abingdon, MD Wawa (Store Manager of the Year)
  • Jim Perkins of Albertsons (Best Met, Pete Manos Retail Executive of the Year Award)

“This important event recognizes extraordinary individuals in the food industry who have had exemplary careers and have given back to their communities.  Iconic individuals such as Izzy Cohen, Buzz McCormick and Frank Purdue paved the way for this generation of leadership and honoring their accomplishments is important,” said Walt Clocker, Chairman of the Food Dealers Council.  “Benjy Green of the B. Green & Company is an excellent example of industry leadership and community engagement.  Benjy partnered with Johns Hopkins School of Public Health to create a nationally recognized campaign named EAT RIGHT, LIVE WELL due to many customers having some of the highest mortality rates for such a young age group.”
