Consumer spending expected to hit $36 billion this Mother’s Day

Consumers are expected to spend a record breaking $36 billion this year for Mother’s Day according to the National Retail Association.

That’s up nearly $4 billion from 2022.

The Maryland Retailers Association tells us a big part of that increase is due to inflation, as spending for all items is up by 4%.

Despite this, we’re told there are still ways to save as consumers can take advantage of many sales currently underway for other commercial holidays like Memorial Day. “Kitchen appliances, mattresses, outdoor furniture, electronics. People are really going to be taking advantage of them and big stores start sales a lot earlier for the holiday,” Maryland Retailers Association President Cailey Locklair said.

“Online sales have already begun too, so just be on the lookout. You’re going to see your discount stores and warehouse stores kicking things off already so there’s lots of options for mom.”

According to the National Retailers Association the most popular gifts for mom’s this year are flowers followed by greeting cards and dining out.
