Hogan’s RELIEF Act, Stimulus Payments Get 1st Hearing in Maryland Senate

Gov. Larry Hogan’s $1 billion economic relief proposal received its first hearing Tuesday in the state Senate, where a committee chair described the bill as one of the most important pieces of legislation the General Assembly will consider this year.

The hearing on the bill, however, lasted only a few minutes and brought almost no input from lawmakers, offering few clues about their intentions for the bill.

Hogan’s RELIEF Act — which stands for Recovery for the Economy, Livelihoods, Industries, Entrepreneurs and Families — would offer direct stimulus payments to certain working Marylanders, eliminate state income tax on unemployment benefits and offer tax breaks to businesses.
